The Minnesota Shubert Center is honored to participate in the Engaging Dance Audience (EDA) grant, provided by DanceUSA with support from the Doris Duke Foundation and the James Irvine Foundation. EDA's purpose is to analyze current dance-going activities, and to explore and research methods of engaging audiences for dance, learn from peers, and share the learning nationally.
As part of the grant, the Minnesota Shubert Center will launch iDance, a 12-month initiative to develop and engage a network of dance enthusiasts. iDance will offer its participants unique, behind-the-scenes opportunities, such as invitations to studio rehearsals and educational sessions with national dance leaders. As a group, we will attend local performances and meet with artists to discuss their work. Individually, iDance participants will be supported as they share the knowledge they gain – through blogs, tweets, artist dialogues and performances – with an expanding audience of dance lovers.
Activities:
Over a 12–month period (February 2010 – February 2011), iDance participants will be invited to attend monthly educational programs facilitated by local and national dance leaders. These programs will focus on how to look at, understand, and interpret dance in its many forms; they will also provide a rich introduction to the Twin Cities dance community. Educational programs will be complemented with more informal, social exchanges with artists in their studios or on the stage after performances. As your enthusiasm grows, the iDance network will work collaboratively to share our discoveries with others in our community who may have an interest in dance but do not know how to begin.
