Universal Language: Cultures Connected Through Dance
Videoconferences
Each week, beginning April 16, The Minnesota Shubert Center will bring members of the Close to Silence team to your classroom via IP videoconferencing technology as part of our online education program, Universal Language: Cultures Connected Through Dance. These education sessions will give your students an opportunity to interact one-on-one with the artists to learn more about what it really takes to develop a multimedia art and dance production, without leaving your classroom. Where else could you give your students such a unique experience free of cost? Don’t worry if your school doesn’t happen to have the equipment…we have an extra set that we will gladly loan you if it is available.
If you are interested in participating in any of these free programs or would like more information please email Melissa@mnshubert.org.
These programs will fill up fast so please be sure to contact us as soon as possible to secure your place!
Week One- April 16th or 17th
Inspiration – Inspiration can be the most beautiful –and challenging– step in the development of an artistic work. Choreographer Wynn Fricke and Fawzia Reda will talk with students about their process of turning an idea into reality as a full production.
Week Two- April 23rd or 24th
Choreography – How does a story become a ballet? Choreographer Wynn Fricke will discuss the process of creating movement to speak to an audience. This session will include a discussion based on how they approach a story to pull out key themes and elements, then use dance as the language in which to tell the story.
Week Three- April 30th or May 1st
Meet the Production Team – There are many people behind the scenes of a production that you never see, but without them, the show would not go on. These are the people that develop the costumes that visually create a character. They design a set that gives a sense of place. They light the stage to create the atmosphere. These are the production elements that help bring the story to life. During this session, students will meet with various members of the production team who will share their secrets of the magic behind the curtain.
Week Four- May 7th or 8th
Meet the Dancers – Minnesota Dance Theatre’s production of Close to Silence will be performed by some of Minnesota’s most talented dancers. During this session students will get an intimate look at a dancer’s life. How did they get started? What does a day in the life of a dancer consist of? How do dancers prepare for a role in a ballet such as Close to Silence?
