Universal Language: For Educators

Thank you for taking an interest in enhancing your curriculum with our offerings in Universal Language.  We have made available many items that could help you in integrating the content within this website into your classroom.

Project Based Learning

The Expedition portion of the program has been designed to engage students in creating a project inspired by the journey of Close to Silence.  It will bring both artists and production team directly to the student through the use of web-conversational outlets, such as forums and chat sessions, thus giving students a rare chance to work one-on-one with those involved with the production. The students have a choice of picking a project from our list, which was created to cover certain Minnesota Education Standards, or developing a project on their own.  Click on the link above for more information.

Videoconference

Each week, beginning April 16, The Minnesota Shubert Center will bring members of the Close to Silence team to your classroom via IP videoconferencing technology as part of our program.  These education sessions will give your students an opportunity to interact one-on-one with the artists to learn more about what it really takes to develop a multimedia art and dance production, without leaving your classroom. Click on the above link for more information on these unique learning experiences.

Learning Activities

Lessons and assessment tools were developed by the Perpich Center for Arts Education, and compiled by Diane Aldis, Dance & Theater Education Specialist to give educators tools to integrating dance education into their curriculum.  Click on the above link for access to these wonderful tools.

Calligraphy

Fawzia Reda, one of the main forces in the creation of Close to Silence and Founder of Cultural Connexion has created lesson plans and activities for teaching your students how to create Arabic Calligraphy.  These are especially useful if your students were to participate in our Calligraphy project as well as teaching your students about another language.
