Creating The Music:
We all know it starts with the music, but there exists much work beyond just writing and recording the songs. It takes a lot of energy, personnel and money to bring an artist's music to you. Below is the approximate timeline for bands under major independent record company's rosters. Please note: This is an approximation and differs slightly from contract to contract and company to company.-----------
Timeline: One month to a lifetime The band writes the songs and lyrics. In some cases, songwriters are hired to write a "hit tune" or the whole album, depending on the band. This is a rare occurrence in bands on independent labels.
Preproduction:
During the preproduction stages of an album, the band records preliminary ideas practices as a group and possibly hosts small shows to test an audience's response of the new material. Sometimes, the band has been performing the songs for a long time but never recorded. --------------
Some bands may have the idea of adding in instruments that none of the members actually play. The band must find musicians who play these instruments or samples of the instruments.
