Part One – Choreography: How a story becomes a ballet
Thursday, April 13
11:15-11:45 4-7 grade
12:00-12:30 8-12 grade
Artistic Director Lise Houlton, along with her dancers, will discuss the process
of transitioning the story of “The Twelve Dancing Princesses”
into a full-length story ballet, The Enchantment. This session will include
a discussion about how Houlton approaches the story to pull out key themes
and elements and then goes on to the storyboarding process. She will also
describe the method of selecting her team of designers, and casting the dancers.
Part Two- Meet the dancers
Friday, April 21
11:15-11:45 4-7 grade
12:00-12:30 8-12 grade
Minnesota Dance Theatre’s production of The Enchantment will be performed
by some of Minnesota’s most talented dancers. During this session students
will get an intimate look at a dancer’s life. How did they get started?
What does a day in the life of a dancer consist of? How do dancers prepare
for a role in a ballet such as The Enchantment?
Part Three- Meet the Production Team
Friday, April 28
11:15-11:45 4-7 grade
12:00-12:30 8-12 grade
There are many people behind the scenes of a production that you never see,
but without them the show would not go on. These are the people that develop
the costumes that visually create a character. They design a set that gives
a sense of place. They light the stage to create the atmosphere. They compose
and arrange the music to partner with the choreography to tell the story.
These are the production elements that help bring the story to life. During
this session students will meet the creative team including the composer,
costume designer, set designer and lighting designer.
Part Four-Dress Rehearsal
Wednesday, May 3
12:00-12:30
12:45-1:15
The show starts this week and everyone is working very hard, putting the final
touches on the performance. During this session students will get a chance
to see a portion of the rehearsal and talk to members about their last minute
challenges leading up to opening night.
