01.11.10 Press Release: iDance Program Launches
The Minnesota Shubert Center and its eight consortium partners are accepting applications for iDance, a new initiative to provide dance enthusiasts with unique educational opportunities, ranging from seminars with national experts to open rehearsals with leading Twin Cities dance companies. Participants in iDance will enrich their own aptitude to understand, interpret, and appreciate dance in its many forms. “The goal of iDance is simple,” says Minnesota Shubert Center Education Director Melissa Koch. “We want to nurture a growing network of well-informed dance lovers who use their knowledge and enthusiasm to welcome new audiences into the Twin Cities dance community.”.Click here to read more.
December 2009 Update
As the Minnesota Shubert Center moves into construction, we talk about a spring 2011 opening, but the truth is the Shubert is already very much in business. The Hennepin Center for the Arts wing of the Shubert currently provides affordable administrative and rehearsal space to 24 nonprofit arts organizations, including two of the Twin Cities’ largest and most acclaimed dance schools.Click here to read more.

Less than two weeks after breaking ground, the Minnesota Shubert Center announced the addition of three core staff members, including its new Executive Director, Mary McColl. 11.05.09 Press Release: Minnesota Shubert Center Breaks Ground
The Minnesota Shubert Center breaks ground Thursday, November 19, marking a major step in the establishment of a new flagship center for dance in Minnesota. Located at 6th Street & Hennepin Avenue in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, The Shubert Center will connect the vibrant Hennepin Center for the Arts and the soon-to-be restored Shubert Theater to create an affordable, state-of-the-art home for dance performance and education. November 2009 Update
The Minnesota Shubert Center will connect the vibrant Hennepin Center for the Arts and the soon-to-be restored Shubert Theater to create a flagship home for dance performance and education in the heart of Minneapolis. The Shubert will provide affordable yet state-of-the-art space to work, teach, rehearse and perform. The new center will serve more than 30 local non-profit arts organizations, including most of our leading dance companies, and hundreds of individual artists and students.Click here to read more.
September 2009 Update
Construction on the Minnesota Shubert Center, a new center for dance in the heart of Minneapolis, will begin on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. A celebratory groundbreaking event, open to the entire community, will be staged from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the small lot between the Hennepin Center for the Arts and the Shubert Theater on Hennepin Avenue.Click here to read more.
August 2009 Update
In the coming weeks, the Minnesota Shubert Center expects to announce a late fall 2009 date for its groundbreaking. Such a schedule would project an early 2011 opening. May 2009 Update
Join us on Monday, May 4 at 2 PM as we rally for the Minnesota Shubert Center. The rally will be led by Mayor R.T. Rybak and County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin and emceed by WCCO Anchor Don Shelby. It will include brief performances by the hip hop crew The Battle Cats and ARENA Dances, and perhaps a few surprises. Click here to read more.
